About Us

The J.H. Simpson Company was established in 1944 by the late Joe Simpson as a sheet metal and furnace shop on East Main Street in Stockton, California. A short time later the shop was moved to Wilson Way in the old Maxwell Motors building and was there until the company was purchased in 1972 by Stew McGaw and his wife, Nancy. In 1974 they had a new modern facility built at the present location on Coronado Avenue with room to expand.

In 1977, the operation was purchased and managed by William J. (Bill) Relf, President and Marvin G. Rosato, Vice President. Both partners had been with the company since the early 1960's.

The J.H. Simpson Company offers a broad range of heating, ventilating and air conditioning, (HVAC) services which  includes institutional, commercial and residential, remodel and new construction projects including architectural sheet metal and stainless steel work.

A competent and well trained staff of designers and engineers, headed by Bill Relf, a California Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer, provides Design-Build services for the HVAC requirements of any type of application. This capability allows project owners a more flexible approach to design concepts with a faster time line and more cost effective solutions to project requirements.

The staff can provide mechanical services for all phases of construction, from preliminary cost analysis, mechanical system design, CAD drafting, fabrication, construction, installation, start-up, balancing and follow-up service. This "single source" capability lends significant value on any project. The designing, engineering, construction, installation and service all under the tight control of a single responsible source; results in savings and flexibility in custom designing.

A growing portion of the J.H. Simpson Company's business, mainly from referrals, is HVAC service, with a large portion of the work being the replacement market. The J.H. Simpson Company provides the services of highly trained technicians in specially equipped, radio dispatched service vans to serve the San Joaquin Valley and foothill areas of Northern and Central California.

Continuing education, training, and instruction are a priority at the J.H. Simpson Company. The company maintains a staff of approximately 30 employees who are members of the Sheet Metal Workers Union. One of the many reasons for the long record of success within the company is its stability and employee loyalty. Many employees have been with the company for years.

The J.H. Simpson Company has been involved in many types of projects in the area, from correctional institutions and hospitals to the cold storage of walnuts and the removal of honey from the comb.
